Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Our field day is scheduled for this Friday, May 26th.  I would love to have some parent volunteers join us at 9:10 to rotate through the stations with my class.  Our field day time will be over at 11:15.  Please make sure your child wears a dark colored t-shirt,  tennis shoes, or water shoes with closed toes.  I highly recommend that you send a change of clothing, towel, water bottle, and sunscreen in your child’s backpack that day.

Reading: This week students will be reading a biography titled The Dog That Dug for Dinosaurs and an informational article titled La Brea Tar Pits.  Students will practice distinguishing between fact and opinion statements and identifying an author’s purpose for writing.

Grammar: Adverbs.

Spelling: words with the /oo/ sound.

The spelling words are located on the back of the newsletter.  Please practice the spelling words with your child so they will be ready for the test on Friday.

Math: Measuring Capacity and weight.

Also, students will continue to work on their basic math facts with Reflex math on i-pads in the classroom.

Writing:  Opinion Writing.

Students will continue looking at what makes a great opinion paragraph and begin writing their own.

Character Trait: Integrity

The assembly will be held on May 30th at 3:05.

Speeches:  This week’s topic is to share what you plan on doing over the summer.  Make sure you have at least 3 separate sentences and that you practice your speech.  Look at everyone in the audience.

Next week instead of speeches, students that wrote another animal report will present their report and the animal report project they completed at home.
